Summer Style: 2 Looks to Love Before Fall

End of Summer Style Ideas and Inspiration

Well hey there - how are you? It's been a few weeks since I've done a fashion post here. Let me apologize for that. It's not that I loved clothes, style and looking my best any less this summer, but two things happened: 1.) This summer was HOT, which meant I spent a lot of time in shorts and a t-shirt, and 2.) I had a temporary summer job, that required a uniform, which also meant everyday was spent in shorts and a polo shirt.

Neither of those scenarios make for interesting, real life style discussion, and that's what these fashion posts are about - real style for real women. I want to talk about what is in your closet, and what you are wearing right now. For me, this transition from summer to fall is the toughest season. I want to wear sweaters and booties, but it's 95 degrees outside.

But we still have to get dressed each morning, right? So while summer is winding down, I'm wearing a few of my favorites that didn't get much time during the height of summer, because of the heat and the uniform.

The first is this skirt and top from Aventura Clothing. This is my second year as an Ambassador with them, and I am as in love with their clothing today, as I was that very first day they sent me clothing to try. Not only do they have a great style, but their clothes are so comfortable and timeless, they become the pieces I reach for day after day.

This black, sleeveless top for instance, looks great with this cotton skirt. It's an easy dressed-up outfit. But the top looks equally great with cropped pants, shorts, jeans and just about any other bottom in my closet. It's perfect under a jacket or a wrap, making it a year-round staple. The embroidered detail on the skirt gives it extra interest. Paired together with flip flops or low sandals - this outfit is perfect for a day of shopping, a shower (where I wore it) or a lunch date. Switch out the sandals for strappy heels, and add a clutch, and it's a fun (but comfortable) date night outfit.

Next up is this print blouse. This is from Ann Taylor, last year. I'm not sure what my favorite part is, the drapey fabric or the cool print. Both of those together makes this one of my favorite pieces. Right now int he heart of summer, I pair it with white: jeans, shorts, skirts, pants, etc. But as fall begins to creep in, I wear it with dark skinnies or khaki pants and skirts. The print keeps it casual, while the fabric lends a dressy feel.

Looking ahead at the weather, it looks like there are more 90+ degree days in my future. I don't know about you, but I am ready for fall. I say bring on the booties and sweaters, but I'm afraid we have about 5-6 more weeks of t-shirts and flip flops. So don't let your style suffer. Take a look in your closet, and see what you can wear right now to keep your cool, but still look stylish!

Both of these silhouettes are easy to duplicate with clothing form your own closet. The first is a simple cotton skirt and t-shirt or tank. The second, is a pair of your favorite jeans and a button-down shirt.  Play with what you have, and shop the end of summer sales. These looks are based on basic pieces and that makes them easy to duplicate in your own style. Have fun with it and be sure to share what you come up with!

  1. I love the 2nd look with the paisley and white pants. I've been all about printed flowy tops this year. So chic and so comfortable. I still don't have a pair of white pants though! Definitely on the must list.
