How To Punch Up the Style of Your Everyday Basics

Welcome back to another weekly fashion post, where I share real outfits for real women. The weather has really been all over the place lately around here. One day it's 70 and the next it's only in the 50s, making getting dressed each day a real challenge. You know the key to changeable temps is layers - right? Well the key to easy layers is great basics.

The key to a great outfit is putting simple pieces together in an unexpected way. For this outfit, it's the pop of a bright bag and comfy leopard slip-on sneakers, perfect for weekend errands, that make the outfit. Otherwise it's just a pair of jeans, a white shirt and a cardi. Silver jewelry, a zipper instead of buttons on the shirt, and a ruffle on the cardigan, all add interest to the ordinary.

Booties and a crew-neck jewel sweater with a scarf, would give this outfit a totally different look, based on the same white shirt and jeans. So building a wardrobe of great basics, gives you plenty of options for putting together easy everyday outfits that look great.

How are you wearing your basics?

  2. I love that bag. It's surprisingly versatile, which is fantastic, because I'd want to carry it every single day. Ha!

  3. I LOVE that bag!!! I seriously almost bought it, but I need something that zips close, or my 1 year old will tip it over and yank everything out. ;) Super cute idea with the bag and shoes!
