Thinking Spring When it Still Feels Like Winter

I don't know about you, but I am ready for spring. I love my boots, but I'm tired of wearing them (note to self get a pedicure STAT!) I have given up on my coat - I'd rather be chilly. All the spring fashion catalogs are arriving in my mailbox and inbox, full of light floral dresses, strappy sandals and shorts, and I want in.

Sadly, here in PA the temperatures are ranging anywhere from 30 to just shy of 60. Not really spring-like, especially if the sun isn't shining. That calls for transition dressing. You know, making your winter clothes look more springy and making your spring clothes warm enough. Transition dressing is hard - many a chilly day I see some poor girl wearing a dress that is much too light, and summer shoes. It will get here . . .we just have to be a little patient.

In the meantime, let's talk about some great pieces that can help you transition: cardigans, jackets, scarves and flat shoes. I struggle in the flat shoe department - I have never been a ballet slipper fan, but I'm still searching for a pair that doesn't make me feel like a duck.

Something else we can do to transition from chilly weather to warmer weather, is to use color.  Lighten up with some pastels (think robin's eggs and moss), or go bold in a jacket or scarf (think tulips and orchids).

I got this beautiful pastel drape cardi from Anthropologie from my brother and his girlfriend for my birthday.  It's the perfect transition piece into spring. I paired it with a simple t-shirt, jeans and boots for a casual look.

  1. I love the open cardigans! I have a bunch of them. They were the ideal post-baby sweater when I wanted to hide everything. And now I like them for this transitional weather where heavy layers just don't make sense. I also like doing stripes with solids too. I have a red & white shirt that I wear with a navy sweater.
