Using Essential Oils Around the House

How you can use the power of essential oils in your own home.

I've been using Essential Oils in my day to day routine for several months now, and they have made a big impact on my health and well-being. I'm always researching new ways to incorporate them into our lives. I wanted to share some ways that I am using my essential oils around my home, each and every day.

Cleaning
Young Living even makes a natural, non-toxic essential oil blend just for cleaning! Thieves Cleaner contains ingredients from renewable plant and mineral sources, vegetable-based surfactants compliant with the Green Seal and EPA Design for Environment (DfE) standards, and even more Thieves and lemon essential oils for extra cleaning power. The bottle is even 100% recyclable. You can use it (diluted) to clean just about everything in your home - floors, pots and pans, upholstery spot cleaning, etc.

Cooking
Did you know that many Young Living Oils are completely safe to ingest? Be sure to check out their new line of Vitality Oils, specially labeled for consumption. I have become a big fan of citrus water (always use a glass vessel)  to help me keep my snacking to a minimum during the day! Recently, I added a few drops of Orange Essential Oil to a batch of dark chocolate brownies - they were DELICIOUS! Young Living has many savory oils as well, like Rosemary, Thyme and Oregano that can be used in your day-to-day recipes. They are very concentrated, so a little goes a LONG way!

Enjoying
Probably my favorite way to use my essential oils around my home is through my diffuser. Big to-do list today? A few drops of Clarity and I am all set to conquer my day. Feeling a little down? Add some Joy to my diffuser, and let the smiles shine. Kids acting all crazy before bedtime? Some Peace and Calming and reading does the trick. I love the way the diffuser and the essential oils make my house smell. I will never buy a scented candle, spray or room freshener again. It's funny how the kids will say, "Mom, what's in the diffuser today? It smells great in here!"

Some of my favorites that I'm using right now:

Purification Oil

The first thing I did with this one, is add a drop or two to each of my wool dryer balls. An easy and inexpensive way to switch out some chemicals from your home, is to stop using dryer sheets. I purchased a set of wool dryer balls at HomeGoods (I think they were $12 and good for 1,000 uses). I added a few drops of my Purification Oil to each one and use them every time I dry clothes - even towels (no chemicals to make them non-absorbent). They don't prevent static cling 100%, but they do soften my clothes nicely.

I also added a drop to the filter on my vacuum. Every time I sweep the floors now, I get a pleasant whiff of Purification.

Lemon Oil and Lemon Vitality Oil

Did you know a drop or two of lemon oil can help remove that sticky label gunk from jars and bottles? It's true! I've been able to re-purpose many more cool jars after I discovered this little EO trick!

I am also including a drop of lemon vitality oil in my water each day. Drinking more water helps to curb my snacking throughout the day.

Have you tried essential oils yet?
