As you may know, we made a Plan for Summer Fun this year. One of the things the kids put on our list of "want to dos" before school was even out for the summer, was to visit Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ.
Luckily, we were invited guests of the Aquarium on our very first week of summer vacation!
It's been a while since we were at the Aquarium, and I was happy to see many new things and exhibits. There is always a new exhibit, and during this visit, we got to check out the fascinating Mighty Mike exhibit!
Have you heard of Mighty Mike? Mighty Mike is the largest American alligator in the country outside of Florida. He weighs 800 pounds and is 14 feet long! Mighty Mike can swallow an entire turkey in one gulp. . .not pretty, but fascinating for kids.
If a giant alligator isn't your thing, perhaps you would enjoy Sting Ray Beach? Sting Ray Beach was by far, my kids favorite thing. The wonderful Aquarium Animal Experience Specialist, Bobby, answered all of their questions and seemed to enjoy their enthusiasm for these magnificent creatures. He even gave the boys Sting Ray teeth to take home. Sting Ray Beach, gives you the opportunity to watch and touch a variety of Rays. There's even a small, low to the ground tank for the little kids, with small rays inside.
Everyone goes to an Aquarium to get a close up of the sharks, and Adventure Aquarium is no different. Their tank features more than 15 unique shark species and 60 sharks in total. Visitors can experience the largest shark collection on the East-Coast by walking through the 40-foot suspended Shark Tunnel and enjoying the 550,000-gallon Shark Real exhibit. You can also catch a glimpse of the only hammerhead sharks on display in the entire country!
There are seven touch-tanks in all scattered throughout the Aquarium. We visited each one several times, as they were by far my kids' favorite thing. Personally, I enjoy the hippo and the penguin exhibits. There is definitely something for everyone there, including a 4-D Spongebob movie.
So if you are in the Philadelphia area, be sure to add Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ to your list of things to see
