"What do you do for a living?"
"I'm a Blogger and Social Media Consultant."
"Oh. . .so you work from home and get to wear yoga pants everyday?"
Have you had that conversation? And many days, my answer is yes. But much to my delight, part of my job allows me the opportunity to attend events, meetings and gatherings and for those. . .I need to step up my yoga pants.
I recently traveled to NYC for a press event at NFL Headquarters. My objective (as far as fashion goes) was to look professional AND be comfortable enough to take the train, walk a few blocks, hop in a cab, etc.
Here's what I chose:

The dress is from Ann Taylor. It is their "Miracle Dress", which lives up to it's hype (thanks to a talented fashion blogger). I scored this dress at my local Ann Taylor for 50% off and once I put it on, knew it was perfect for my trip.
The shoes I found at DSW. I was looking for a pair of nude, open-toed patent pumps. . .but no such luck. These were also on sale with additional deductions. And I think they will look adorbs through fall and next spring with many things I already own.
My hardest decision was a bag. I wanted something that looked chic and could hold all my stuff (including a pair of flip flops for walking). I dug around in my bags, and came up with this Nicole Miller bag from my office days. I cleaned it up a bit - and it looked almost new. It's a simple black canvas briefcase type bag.
Some silver jewelry and I was all set.
So that's my fashion advice for a day trip to NYC. I felt stylish and looked professional, while being comfortable - and in my book, that's success.

Great choice. Love the color of that dress, especially!
ReplyDeleteMy go-to professional look is trousers (sometimes trouser jeans!) or a pencil skirt.
Shoes are what always trip me up (not literally, most days, ha!). I have a problem with finding the balance between comfy and "dressy". Yours look like they did the trick!
Thanks Alissa - the shoes were not bad - I wore them almost the whole time. My toes started to feel a bit pinched towards the end of the day - but I'm out of practice - LOL
