How-To . . .Get Through Cold and Flu Season

Even though Spring is just around the corner, we are deep into cold and flu season.  With the warmer weather this winter, experts are saying that the height of the flu season was a bit delayed.

So far so good (knock wood), the flu and anything more than some sniffles have passed us by.

But I recently attended a luncheon with Dr. Meg Meeker and sponsored by Vick's, where I learned a lot about colds, flu, and believe it or not, being a mom.

Dr. Meg is a best selling author and a pediatrician.  She told the group of bloggers assembled (who happened to also be moms), that moms should trust our instincts.  We know what's going on with our kids.  Sometimes we are bombarded with shoulds and musts, and we lose our confidence. . .but we, as moms, have to believe in ourselves and our instincts when it comes to the health of our children.

Some take-aways for keeping your family healthy this cold and flu season:
  • A humidity level between 40-60%  can dramatically decrease the flu virus in the air.
  • You can take an accurate temperature behind the ear.
  • Besides keeping the air humidified, you can reduce your risk of catching colds and flu by washing your hands and drinking lots of fluids.
  • Treating a fever can help your child be more comfortable.
I hope cold and flu season passes you by this year.  What are some of your tips for staying healthy?

catch you soon -

note - I received a gift bag for attending the event; however, as always all opinions expressed here are my very own.

  1. No flu here yet! Crossing my fingers, toes and arms. We seem to be getting the stupid stomach bug over and over here. Any tips on that one?

These tips are helpful, thanks for sharing!

  3. I loved the tips we received at this get-together! We were basically sick all of January so it was good for us, even if a bit late.
