I am a tights kind of girl. Although my very first "real" job was across the street from Strawbridge and Clothier in Philadelphia, and I knew exactly where the fitting room was, closest to the hosiery department, for those weekly runs and snags. When the 90s came and went and I didn't have to wear suits everyday to work - I stopped worrying about hosiery.
Except for special occasions. . .since I am a woman of a certain age (wink) I am not really comfortable with bare legs in a dressy situation. Personally, I think bare legs scream casual for everybody, but I could be a tad bit old fashioned.
Today, I found myself helping a friend find hosiery for an event she's attending this weekend. Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Talbot's and Soma all let us down.
We went to Macy's - figuring a department store should have a good selection. They had an okay selection. . .but seriously. . .have you shopped for hosiery lately?

Seriously you need a guide to find what you want, and then a color chart to find the right color. When did it get so difficult?
I know choices are good. . .but it truly did seem like bin after bin of almost exactly the same thing.
Luckily my friend found her hosiery of choice in a good color.

I have to admit-- I love that I no longer have to worry about wearing hosiery any longer. I never could find a brand that I didn't put a snag in right from the start....and then I felt like I had wasted all that money!

I am not a lover of stockings/pantyhose and I am a frequent offender with bare legs and boots or open toe heels in winter -- however, the spanx fishnets are amazing and look great with almost everything! I give them my highest rating.

I agree, I'm not comfortable with a bare leg either - but I'm not sure if it's an old fashioned thing or a body image thing. :) So I try to avoid situations where I'll have to wear hosiery, though I don't mind knee-highs (are those terrible?). I feel smothered in full-on, body-hugging, NASA-engineered pantyhose - they invade my personal space.
