... yesterday i had the chance to have coffee with one of my friends and neighbors. . .it's a fairly regular occurrence, and i get to participate more now that i'm not working outside the house. i enjoy the time to relax and catch up and get some good advice from these other moms. . .
but a special part of the ritual for me - is that is reminds me of my childhood. . .some of my earliest memories are of going with my mom to my great grandmother's house for coffee in the mornings. i had the luxury of growing up with a good deal of family right next door to each other - and my mother, my grandmother, and her sister (my great-aunt) would have coffee.
nothing fancy - everyday corelle and pfaltzgraff and probably some sort of snack. . .the coffee was from a can - and there was milk or juice for me. but what i remember most is them sitting around and sharing stories and catching up - like a secret club. . .they talked about the family, tv shows, their homes, what projects they were working on. . .sharing parts of themselves with each other over cups of coffee. . .
so when i find myself sitting in my friend's kitchen, sharing stories and talking about current events. . .part of me is transported back in time. . .
